A Pilgrimage Through
the Roots of Your Faith
Scotland is where your faith tradition was born. This is not a sightseeing trip that happens to visit churches — it is a pilgrimage designed specifically for the Fanwood Presbyterian community, tracing the story of John Knox, the Covenanters, and the Reformation from Edinburgh to the sacred isle of Iona.
Flamingo Travel Adventures has handled every detail — transfers, guides, accommodations, admissions, and ferry crossings — so you arrive as pilgrims, not coordinators. Twelve nights. Five destinations. One story that spans five centuries.
Your Scottish Journey
Arrive in Edinburgh
Your group is met at Edinburgh Airport and transferred by private coach to the hotel. The afternoon is yours before a welcome dinner together — a 3-course meal with wine.
Full-Day Guided Walking Tour
A private guide leads your group through Edinburgh's Old Town: Greyfriars Kirkyard, St Giles' Cathedral, the Royal Mile, and John Knox House — where the Scottish Reformation took shape.
Free Day in Edinburgh
Edinburgh Castle, Arthur's Seat, the National Museum, or a whisky tasting in the Old Town. The city rewards the curious.
Departure to St Andrews
Visit the ruins of St Andrews Castle and Cathedral, St Salvator's Chapel where Patrick Hamilton was martyred in 1528, and the Martyrs Memorial.
St Andrews: Golf, St. Mary's College & Celtic Christianity
A free day in one of Scotland's most beautiful coastal towns, with an optional golf outing pending availability. The day also features a special conversation led by Pastor Stacy on Celtic Christianity at St. Mary's College — a place she knows well, having studied here in 2001.
Stirling Castle & Dunblane Cathedral
Visit magnificent Stirling Castle, then continue to Dunblane to explore the remarkably preserved Dunblane Cathedral — a quiet, powerful place in Scotland's ecclesiastical heritage.
Scenic Drive via Trossachs & Loch Lomond
Your coach winds through the Trossachs National Park and the shores of Loch Lomond before arriving in Oban, the seafood capital of Scotland. Dinner at the hotel that evening, included.
Oban Distillery Tour & Free Time
Visit the Oban Distillery — one of Scotland's oldest, right in the heart of town — for a guided tour and tasting of their signature Highland single malt. The rest of the day is yours to explore.
Ferry to Iona via Isle of Mull
The spiritual heart of the journey. Ferry to the Isle of Mull, cross by coach to Fionnphort, then board a small passenger ferry to Iona — where St Columba established his monastery in 563 AD. One night on the island lets you experience its extraordinary stillness, culminating in a special service of worship in the historic Iona Abbey.
Morning Pilgrimage on Iona, then to Glasgow
Before departing, Pastor Stacy leads a morning on-island pilgrimage taking in the accessible sights of Iona — the Abbey, the Nunnery, St. Columba's Bay, and Oran Chapel. Then your group returns by ferry and private coach to Glasgow, Scotland's largest city, known for its Victorian architecture, world-class museums, and famously warm people.
Glasgow Walking Tour & Farewell Dinner
A guided walking tour through the medieval cathedral and Necropolis, the merchant city, Kelvingrove galleries, and the School of Art district. The evening closes with a farewell dinner together — a final meal as a group to celebrate the journey.
Depart for Home
Transfer to the airport for international flights home. Twelve nights. A story five centuries in the making. Return flights may be booked from either Glasgow or Edinburgh pending pricing.
Stay for Columba Week on Iona
For those who want to go deeper, the Iona Community offers Columba Week 2027 — a six-night residential programme on the island, led by Simon de Voil. Following in the footsteps of St Columba, the week explores how his remarkable story resonates with us today through worship, reflection, and community life at Iona Abbey.
The main Scotland trip ends in Glasgow. Columba Week begins June 5 on Iona — a natural extension for anyone who wants to spend a week living and worshipping in one of the most sacred places in Celtic Christianity.
Booking for Columba Week is coordinated through Fanwood Presbyterian Church. Pricing is in British pounds and subject to exchange rates at time of booking.
